Battle Creek Friends Church is hosting a family-friendly bike ride and memorial event Saturday, Oct. 23.

Jason’s Friends + Family Ride will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, starting at Battle Creek Friends Church at 1305 Olive St. in Battle Creek. Tickets for the event are $20 for adults and $12 for anyone under 18.

The event is a memorial for Jason Pompey, as well as a fundraiser for upcoming mission trips sponsored by the church.

“My husband loved road and gravel biking,” Jason’s wife, Erica Pompey, said. “He also loved God and our church.”

Pompey said that while there is no set goal for the fundraiser, they do hope to hold similar events annually, fundraising for the greatest need each year.

“The idea is to get families together to eat and enjoy the fall weather together,” she said. “Each rider will receive a T-shirt along with pancake breakfast. Stickers for bikes, helmets or cars will be available for additional cost.”

Participants are asked to be courteous and remember that it is a leisurely event, not a race. Helmets are advised and participants can use whatever bike they choose.
