Kellogg Community College’s student-led Encore Theatre Club is putting on a production of “Clue,” the comedic murder-mystery based on a classic board game, with auditions being held this week.
There will be opportunities to audition both in person and online. In-person auditions will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, and 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, in the Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center of the North Avenue campus in Battle Creek. Alternatively, individuals will be able to audition via a Google form, which will be open until 6 p.m. Friday, Feb 10. Auditions are open to the whole community, high school and up.
There is no preparation or experience necessary to audition in person. Participants are simply asked to show up on time, fill out an audition form, and be prepared to read excerpts from the script. For those who are unable to attend auditions in person, an audition video can be submitted via a Google form.
Rehearsals will be taking place in person, with regular rehearsals from 6 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday and 4 to 6:15 p.m. every Friday, in the Davidson Auditorium of the North Avenue campus in Battle Creek. These rehearsals will begin on Feb. 16, and proceed until the performances on April 8, 9, and 10.
Vice President of Encore Theatre Club Hunter Hamrick spoke of how exciting it is to be a student-led organization putting on such a classic show.
“It’s been too long since any of us have been able to do, or see, live theatre so we hope to bring it back with a bang,” Hamrick said. “Putting on ‘Clue’ specifically is great because it’s a classic that many people know and love, and I’m excited to see our take of it.”
For those who aren’t interested in being on stage, there are many other opportunities to work on this show. Aiding in set construction, working backstage during performances, and running technical aspects of the show are all crucial roles that anyone in the community can volunteer to fill.
