The first Bruins Give Back volunteer opportunity for the spring semester is on Friday, Feb. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Charitable Union, located at 85 Calhoun St. in Battle Creek.

Volunteers will help sort and categorize clothing items and clean as needed for the Charitable Union, which helps residents of Calhoun County receive clothes, bedding and household items at no cost.

“My favorite part is meeting new people and seeing this group from KCC all working in a collaborative effort to make something better,” said Service-Learning office assistant Sierra Thurmond. “Everybody always has such a good time and is so happy to be there.”

Volunteers will receive a free Bruins Give Back T-shirt. All KCC students and employees are invited to serve at this and future Bruins Give Back events, and can sign up online via the form available at https://forms.gle/JtbGDKQKZwNTkNUP8.

“I think it’s a beautiful way for people to see different community needs and nonprofits that they don’t have exposure to all while being with friends and colleagues so they can make connections with faculty, staff and students from other disciplines,” Integrative Learning Director Kate DeGraaf said.

Bruins Give Back is held from 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays up to three times per semester, and past events have been located at elementary schools, community gardens and at various locations on campus at KCC, to name a few.

Future Spring 2020 Bruins Give Back dates include:

  • Friday, March 20
  • Friday, April 24
