“Rocky Horror” is coming to Southwest Michigan!

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” – the classic musical-comedy-horror film – will be playing at the Kalamazoo State Theatre for two showings, with an early showing at 6:30 p.m. and a late showing at 10:30 p.m. Oct. 20. Tickets are $5 for students, $12.50 for general admission and $40 for VIP.

The VIP ticket includes entry to VIP pre-party, an interactive prop bag for the movie, early entry into the venue, priority seat selection and a complimentary drink.

State Theatre Marketing Assistant Kaleigh DeYoung said attendees can “expect to have the most fun possible while watching an absolute classic.”

“Last year was my first year getting to experience it all and it’s just incredible,” DeYoung said. “People go all-out dressing up as the characters, they use their interactive prop bags – available for purchase at the theatre – throughout the film, shout movie quotes, dance and sing the whole time.”

This year’s show is different because it’s enhanced by musical theatre students from Western Michigan University acting as a kind of “shadow cast,” DeYoung said.

“The shadow cast dresses up as the main characters and dances along with the film and encourages the audience to dance and sing as well,” DeYoung said. “They add more fun and energy to the whole experience.”

DeYoung said even the venue itself adds to the experience of seeing the film.

“The theatre is gorgeous and the perfect ambiance for this movie,” DeYoung said. “You’re basically watching the film in a 90-year-old, somewhat gothic, atmospheric theatre. If you’ve never been to the venue, it honestly takes your breath away when you first see it.”

There is an eight-ticket limit, and general admission tickets increase by $2.50 on the day of the show. While anyone can attend, the show is recommended for mature audiences ages 16 and up.
