On the occasion of students going back to schools, the American Muslim Society will launch a big event on Sunday, Sept.23.

The AMS is a nonprofit, independent organization was established in 1938, making it one of the first Islamic organizations in the United States and the first in Michigan.

AMS decided to launch activities for students, especially teenagers, to motivate them for a great school start.

The Sept. 23 event will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. in Waterworks Park on North Waterworks Drive in Coldwater. The event is free for students who are in school from age 12 to 18. AMS will provide food, games and giveaways.

Mastoor Ali, the financial officer of AMS, said the event will be a great opportunity for students to get together and learn new skills.

“Students are our future and it is our responsibility to make sure that they have a great start of new school year,” Ali said. “This event will bring a lot of fun activities with encouragement for the students to always work hard and do their best.”
