Kellogg Community College’s Encore Theatre Company is back in business this semester. The recently inactive club on campus has been taken into the hands of honor student Drea Smith.

“When I heard about the club I saw an opportunity to grow a family environment,” Smith says. “I wanted a safe place for people to have artistic freedom while also building close relationships with others who share that interest.”

Although the club is just getting back on its feet, Smith believes the club has already allowed students to grow and flourish within their artistic freedom.

The theatre club currently has more than 30 members and is looking for more to expand their theatre family. Anyone is welcome, and no theatre experience is required. Anyone looking to join can either email Smith at dreabear17@gmail.com or attend a club practice from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday nights at the Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center on the North Avenue campus.

Sixteen of the 30 members are actively participating in the club’s upcoming show, “Kill Me, Deadly.” The show is a parody of 1940s film noir/detective movies.

“It turns the dramatic murder of Lady Clairmont into a quick-paced comedy,” Smith says.

All members of the now active theatre club are excited to make their debut in the play at the Davidson Center, which will show at:

  • 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25
  • 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 26
  • 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27

Tickets are $5 at the door.
