Kellogg Community College’s women’s volleyball team earned its first victory in the new Miller Gym over Jackson College on Tuesday and is on a seven-game winning streak after an away win over Kalamazoo Valley Community College last night.

The win Tuesday was the first at home since the team began playing in its new facilities this fall. The Bruins defeated the Jets in three sets, winning set one 25-19, set four 25-16 and set five 15-10.

KCC was led on the court by sophomore Rose Tecumseh with 20 kills, 1 ace, 12 digs and 1 block; sophomore Kirby Frodge with 12 kills, 20 digs and 1 ace; and freshman Madison Ducheney with 11 kills and 1 solo. Freshman Madison Jones had 47 assists, 2 block assists and 14 digs, and sophomore Kameron Haley had 29 digs, 3 kills and 1 ace.

“Feels good to get that first win in the new gym,” Head KCC Coach Tom VanWienen said. “Ladies dug in and came out with a win. Proud of the way we came together and kept grinding!”

After this week’s wins, the Bruins have an overall record of 7-12 for the season so far; the team’s conference record is 3-8.

The team’s next home match starts at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, against conference opponent Lansing Community College in the Miller Gym.
